The national plan for the formulation of a comprehensive framework for action to develop new flexible public procurement procedures and promote emerging innovation technologies in the public sector is in full swing.

The “Information Society” is actively participating in this effort, just as it did almost six years ago, playing a key role in the national digital transformation project.

Specifically, the “Information Society”, together with 15 leading institutions from the research and academic community, participates in the Greek Digital Innovation Hub GR digiGOV innoHUB, a project funded by the European Commission and the NSRF.

This scientific team specialises in the exploitation of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, and actively participates in the design and development of advanced information systems and infrastructure for the digital transformation of the Greek Public Administration.

Moreover, Artificial Intelligence and its integration in the entire Greek Public Sector, with the aim of minimising digital bureaucracy, is a mega project for the Ministry of Digital Governance, with the ultimate goal of the Greek Public Sector to gradually and methodically enter the era of artificial intelligence, where digital applications will make the operation of the state more effective.

It is telling that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also launched InvestAI, an initiative to mobilise €200 billion for investment in AI, including a new €20 billion European fund for AI gigafactories.

But also the establishment of “Pharos”, one of the first seven AI factories in the EU, as part of the European AI Factories initiative under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, puts Greece high on the AI map.

The “Information Society”, fully aligned with this national and European direction, wants to highlight innovation contracts as a cornerstone for improving Public Administration, enhancing the quality of life of citizens and shaping a sustainable development model for public institutions.

Through GR digiGOV innoHUB, the objectives are:

  • To support the development of a new generation of Public services based on advanced digital technologies, open standards and open source solutions for citizens and businesses.
  • To enrich the ecosystem of Digital Transformation institutions; and facilitate the procurement of innovative digital solutions by Public Administration, transforming it into a major buyer and investor of innovation.
  • To operate a virtual GovTech lab that can accelerate the development of innovative and cost-effective digital solutions through flexible and effective partnerships between the public and private sectors, society and the academic community.

The “Information Society” on 6 and 19 May 2025 will hold awareness raising webinars on innovation procurement for public bodies, followed by similar actions for start-ups.
