What is the object of the project?
The project is implemented on multiple levels, with the aim of developing the extroversion of Greek production, the primary and secondary sector of Greek Agriculture. The action includes a holistic approach to the development of the extroversion of Greek Agriculture, both by developing information systems for the control and facilitation of the regulatory audit work, and by adopting innovative technologies and initiatives for the promotion of the Greek brand, the control of the appropriation of Greek labelling and the connection of Greek agri-food products with foreign markets.
The overall project is divided into the following actions:
- Upgrade of the “Easy Agro Expo” Export Trade platform.
- Ambivert import and intra-Community trade data management system.
- Ambivert Business Intelligence Imports – Exports system.
- Extrovert Portal for the promotion of Greek agri-food and agricultural products with the upgrade of the Greek Farms Portal.
- Formation of a digital profile of foreign traders, producers and cooperatives,
- Providing digital match services between the profiles of buyers and producers with cooperation proposals.
- Management of conferences – events – Live event: The system will be offering the possibility of registering and managing Live Events and actions, under the supervision of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
- Digital user meetings: The users of the system will be able to hold virtual meetings via video conference.
- The system will allow to display advertisements on the screens of Buyers and Producers.
What is the purpose of implementing the project?
Extroversion, combined with competitiveness, is considered as the prerequisite to increase exports which, in turn, will lead to the increase of agricultural income and the development of the national economy. Currently, incomplete digitization increases the administrative costs of exports, while the absence of comprehensive support for the promotion of product limits the potential of quality agricultural products. Applications for the export of products under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food are submitted to the local Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Services (DAOK). They are mostly printed and the certificates or commercial documents are issued in hard copy. The process of applying, checking and issuing a certificate, causes delays in exports and does not allow the overall supervision of the export project, nor the gathering of the necessary information to implement a policy. Accordingly, imports are registered in the EU TRACES system, which provides information to the Member States, but cannot be adapted to the requirements of each EU Member State, nor provide combined product balance information. Checks of the appropriation of Greek labelling for products offered on the domestic market or for export are mainly in the form of on-site checks, as the country does not have any big data management system, allowing it to carry out combined checks by handling information that is currently available in non-interoperable systems or on paper. The Mediterranean Greek diet, which is a comparative advantage of the country both in domestic consumption and in exports, in combination with the tourist product, is not adequately showcased and promoted by Greece to the target markets for exports. Small agri-food firms have not been properly familiarized themselves with the digital means of promoting their products in foreign markets.
What are the benefits of the project?
The expected benefits of developing digital applications are:
- Simplifying the process of exporting agricultural products and reducing its costs,
finally leading to an increase in exports - Obtaining a complete and accurate picture of imports and exports of agricultural products, which in turn will lead to better support of the decision-making process in matters of subsidies, crop restructuring, etc.
- Increasing the effectiveness of controls and the protection of healthy competition
- Improving the visibility of agricultural products in Greece and – especially – abroad.
- Raising awareness on Greek Brands
- Increasing the level of digital literacy and the level of professionalism of farmers.
The project, which is a digital transformation project, is expected to contribute to:
- increasing farmers’ income,
- preserving and increasing jobs in the agri-food sector
- reducing income disparities between urban and rural areas and
- preserving the rural population.
