What is the object of the project
The project aims at the Creation of HSGME Mapping Hub for the provision of free geodata services related to energy, entrepreneurship and innovation, in the form of web mapping services (WEB MAP SERVICES) and open standards (Rest, OGC, etc.) as well as the conversion of all Geospatial Data of the HSGME single Database, pursuant to INSPIRE Directive.
It includes the following axes:
- Creation of an HSGME Geospatial Data Portal;
- Creation of mapping Services;
- Creation of directory services;
- Conversion of all Geospatial Data of the HSGME single Database, as well as creation of metadata pursuant to INSPIRE Directive;
- Geoprocessing and crowd sourcing applications;
- Digitization and dissemination of HSGME Library material
- Virtual navigation applications;
- Extension of Existing Functionality.
What is the purpose and the objectives from the project implementation?
The proposed project will provide a solution to the problem of lack of available Geospatial data for Geosciences, which are useful in several areas of activity (energy, environment, large engineering projects and constructions, entrepreneurship etc.). Geological background is considered to be the second in necessity geospatial level after topographic background. Currently, access is performed via Geological maps or scanned Geological maps, which forces stakeholders to reproduce the linear information, which is completely eliminated with the proposed project. There will only be a single geological digital background available at the National Geospatial Information Portal and that will be available maintained and reviewed by HSGME. Our country will cease to reproduce and pay the same background, exactly as it did with the orthophotomaps of the land register.
What are the benefits from the implementation of the project
The benefits from the implementation of the project for the national economy, the citizens and the businesses are :
- Free data for Geosciences, which are useful in several areas of activity (Indicatively energy, environment, large engineering projects and constructions, entrepreneurship etc.). Geological background is considered to be the second geospatial level after topographic background.
- Contribution to the National Digital Strategy 2016-2021 with the creation of a spatial data availability portal for Geosciences, interoperable and fully interconnected with the government data and metadata portals, with open standards and open software, with citizen- and business-friendly data formats.
- Ability to create new products and applications, based on HSGME information, contributing to the regulation of unfair competition and the economic growth of our country.
- Enhancement of the citizens’ quality of life.
- Competitiveness of HSGME against the other Geological Institutes of the European Union.
- Easier promotion of geoscientific knowledge and provision of digital information to the fields of entrepreneurship that can utilise it.
- Sharing scientific knowledge and strengthening the educational role of the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME) in Society. Preservation and protection of this single geoinformation archive against wear and any act of destruction.
