The extension of their cooperation with the forthcoming signing of a programme agreement for the development of a new digital project (Geoconnect) was announced by the ‘Information Society’ and the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration, among other things, during an event for the completion of the “Geoportal”.
Yesterday’s event, which took place at the amphitheatre of HSGME at the Olympic Village, in the presence of representatives of the State, public bodies, as well as members of the scientific and professional community, highlighted the essential importance of digital transformation in geosciences with Geoportal.
The Minister of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, Mr. Christos Dermentzopoulos, in his welcoming speech, after praising the cooperation between ‘Information Society’ and HSGME, stressed that Geoportal is a strategic knowledge development tool that signals a new era in the management of geospatial data.
On her side, the General Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Ms. Despoina Paliarouta, referred to the multifaceted contribution of Geoportal to entrepreneurship, innovation and the sharing of scientific knowledge in a transparent and easy way.
The CEO of‘ Information Society’ Mr. Stavros Asthenidis said, among other things. “After six years in ‘Information Society’, in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Governance, we undertook the planning of all these projects, which I believe was a game changer for the Greek public administration, we are now able to see the results of this effort. We are happy to deliver projects but also to cooperate with organisations that embrace technology and are open to digital transformation. After all, for us digital transformation has no limits. It has no borders, it is not limited by technologies or procedures — because, in fact, it is not about machines; it is about us, the people. Digital transformation is a culture of cooperation, extroversion and trust.”
The “host” of the event, Mr. Dionysios Goutis, General Director of the Hellenic Survey of Geology and Mineral Exploration, after welcoming the event, thanked for the cooperation all the working groups that contributed to the implementation of this project, which was an important objective for HSGME. “Knowledge has merit when there is free access for all. Geoportal was a difficult project. With one click, it enables any user to identify geological formations throughout the territory. One can see landslides, mines, water quality, field drilling and a series of geospatial data. One can browse online in the National Geological Museum and in our library, which has 10,000 exhibitions and is the culmination of more than 100 years of operation and contribution of HSGME in the country”.
Finally, the Sales Director Public, EU & International Organizations OTE/ General Manager at Cosmote Global Solutions, Mr. Stathis Kechriotis, expressed his absolute satisfaction from the cooperation between all the stakeholders involved in the implementation of Geoportal.
During the conference, the Head of the Department of Digital Governance of HSGME, Mrs.Aspasia Zalachori and the Scientific Coordinator of Geoportal, Mr. Nikolaos Androulakakis, extensively presented the features and tools of geoportal. Through thematic maps, GIS services and modern search tools, geoportal creates a single and dynamic knowledge environment, facilitating the study, comparison and exploitation of geospatial information by researchers, institutions and citizens.
