‘The upgraded “112” will feature additional capabilities for compatibility with new technology and will enable citizens to interact with the different agencies, as well the agencies with each other,’ said the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Vasilis Kikilias yesterday, when signing the contract for upgrading the emergency call number, a project implemented by ‘Information Society’ as part of the ‘AEGIS’ program.

Mr. Kikilias concluded by thanking ‘Information Society’ for its cooperation, as, he said, ‘projects are being delivered one after another.’

Mr. Stavros Asthenidis, CEO of ‘Information Society’, said: ‘We will do our utmost to have the project implemented in a timely and quality manner, so that it is delivered for use by the Hellenic Fire Service and the Hellenic Civil Protection, making sure that “112” enters a new technological era and is open to any new technology, in accordance with all the specifications laid down, so that it can be integrated and be even more effective in protecting citizens.’

According to the project specifications, ‘112’ will be upgraded in order to:

  • Allow multi-channel communication with all citizens in emergencies.
  • Allow cooperation between Unit 5 of the Operations Center (Joint Coordination Center for Cooperation & Crisis Management) and Emergency Response Agencies all over Greece.
  • Have a new interface adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
