What is the object of the project?

The object of the project consists of the implementation of two key actions in the framework of the strategy to strengthen the country’s resilience to natural and man-made disasters:

  1. Procurement of equipment for prevention, response, management and early warning systems for natural and man-made hazards, in the context of creating an integrated system of prevention, monitoring, early warning and risk forecasting based on cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence
  2. Development of a preparedness assessment framework and a mechanism for systematic recording and monitoring of resources related to the Civil Protection of Local Government Administration Organisations The implementation of the actions is based on the following strategic directions:
  • Monitoring and forecasting of extreme events: Responding to natural disasters such as floods, forest fires and earthquakes through innovative technologies.
  • Systematic assessment of the level of preparedness of OTAs and appropriate management of civil protection resources: Support decision making for the mobilisation and allocation of available resources at local and national level with the help of evidence-based information. This Action is expected to be implemented with funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

What are the main objectives and the expected benefits of the project?

The following objectives are expected to be achieved as a result of the implementation of the project:

  • Adopting a modern and effective approach to address natural disasters such as severe weather events, contributing to both their prevention and management by the relevant competent organisations.
  • Enhancing preparedness – in terms of organisation and actions – of the Services and Organisations involved to address severe weather events and ensuring an immediate, coordinated and pre-planned response.
  • Accurate and timely provision of information to emergency responders in case of natural disasters.
  • Planning appropriate actions for a more immediate and effective response to incidents.
