Stathis Kechriotis<\/strong>, OTE\u2019s Sales Director for the Public Sector, the EU and International Organisations.<\/p>\nDuring the Information Day, the profound social and operational significance of EDIT was highlighted. The EDIT is not simply a technological upgrade, but a comprehensive, people-centred tool that guarantees equal access for all citizens to high-quality healthcare services, regardless of where they live; from the most remote island near the borders to the heart of urban centres.<\/p>\n
Particular emphasis was placed on drastically reducing unnecessary patient transfers, relieving pressure on the National Health System and strengthening Primary Healthcare. At the same time, the network\u2019s role in supporting doctors and nurses through advanced teleconsultation and e-learning services was highlighted.<\/p>\n
During the workshop, the history, mission and vision of EDIT were presented, along with its technological innovations and the challenges faced during implementation. The conference highlighted experiences from clinical practice, European practices, issues relating to the regulatory and legislative framework, as well as the prospects for the development of telemedicine in Greece in the coming years.<\/p>\n
The presentation on the expansion of the network across the country, through the development of new Doctor-Patient and Doctor-Consultant Telemedicine Stations, home monitoring systems, training centres and operational support infrastructure. These new facilities will significantly enhance the ability to provide timely and reliable healthcare services in remote and island areas.<\/p>\n
EDIT is a modern, people-centred multi-tool serving the National Health System, offering teleconsultation, telemonitoring, telepsychiatry and ongoing professional development for healthcare staff, with the aim of improving the quality of healthcare services provision and promoting equal access for all citizens.<\/p>\n
EDIT is a flagship project of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence. It is being implemented by Information Society, with funding from the European Union\u2019s Recovery and Resilience Fund and OTE as the contractor.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister for Health,\u00a0Irini Agapidaki<\/strong>, emphasised: “The National Telemedicine Network is a flagship project for the digital transformation of the public health sector, which is already changing the way in which healthcare services are provided in our country.”<\/p>\nWe currently have 305 doctor-patient clinics and 35 doctor-consultant clinics, which provide citizens with immediate and equal access to medical care, even in the most remote parts of the country. At the same time, the Hellenic National Public Health Organisation’s (EODY) Mobile Health Teams are being rolled out, along with around 3,000 home nursing systems, bringing healthcare services closer to the public than ever before.<\/p>\n
Of particular importance is the partnership we are developing with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to establish a single operations centre at Attiko Hospital, which will bring together telemedicine, Mobile Health Teams and field operations, thereby significantly strengthening operational coordination and response times across the country.<\/p>\n
This new ecosystem, which integrates EDIT, substantially enhances equal access to healthcare services for all citizens, regardless of their geographical location, relieving the pressure on the National Health System and fundamentally transforming the model of healthcare provision.<\/p>\n
This is a major reform that is already yielding results and laying the groundwork for a more modern, more effective and more people-centred healthcare system.”<\/p>\n
