In the Olympia Forum II<\/a> conference on the theme of \u201cempowering cities and regions\u201d, which takes place at the Zappeion Mansion and is co-organised by the newspaper PATRIS and the Economic Forum of Delphi, the General Director of Projects of the Information Society S.A., Mr. Dimitris Giantsis was participated.<\/p>\n

This is a conference dedicated exclusively to local and regional governance, whose work focuses on the dynamics of cities and regions, with the aim of promoting and exchanging beneficial practices for the challenges of regional development, both at national and European level.<\/p>\n

At the conference, which was attended by speakers, Ministers and Deputy Ministers responsible for Local and Regional Governance, Regional Governors, Mayors and Academics, Mr. Giantsis, among others, referred to the catalytic role played by the \u201cInformation Society\u201d, as the executive agency of the Ministry of Digital Governance, in the project of digital transformation of public administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Information Society manages a portfolio of projects and actions, which together with the projects we have from the Recovery Fund, reaches 5 billion euro. We fully understand the challenge and we will make every effort to meet the very demanding conditions for the implementation of Digital Transformation projects in the public sector \u201c, as Mr. Giantsis stressed.
\nHe even announced in advance that: \u201cA number of actions are coming up concerning significant digital interventions in Local Authorities. An example is the smart cities that are now an important pillar of the National Digital Strategy. There is a specific plan for the costs and the source of funding, both from the Recovery Fund and the new NSRF. We will also proceed with infrastructure actions (pre-installation of fibres to homes \u2013 \u201cFibre readiness\u201d, island interconnectivity with underwater optical cables and a network of cross-border \u201ccorridors\u201d between European countries covered by 5G \u2013 \u201c5G Corridors\u201d), with a total budget of \u20ac480,000,000, which are included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and their funding also comes from the Recovery Fund. Our aim is to help the country to fill the gaps in high-speed connections.\u201d<\/p>\n

By closing his speech at the conference, Mr. Giantsis wanted to thank, on behalf of the Information Society, the Minister of Digital Governance, the Deputy Ministers, the Secretaries-General and all the associates of the company at the Ministry of Digital Governance for the trust they show in the IS and their good cooperation.
